Iraq Suffers Judgment Pronounced Against Ancient Babylon
Sunday, December 30th, 2007By Matthew Robert Payne Could it be that Jeremiah all those thousands of year ago prophesied a judgment on modern Iraq in his prophesy against Babylon. It certainly looks like it when you read the words of the prophecy. I take apart some of the lines briefly, and as a staunch non supporter of the war on terror this gives me the understanding I possibly need to understand why God has allowed this war. Perhaps Iraq is really getting judged like this prophecy says they would. 8 Move from the midst of Babylon, Go out of the land of the Chaldeans; And be like the rams before the flocks. 9 For behold, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon An assembly of great nations from the north country, And they shall array themselves against her; From there she shall be captured. Their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior; None shall return in vain. 10 And Chaldea shall become plunder; All who plunder her shall be satisfied, says the LORD. The Coalition came from the USA, Australia and England, not specifically a north country, but it was an assembly of nations. The two attacks, one by George Bush senior and the one by his son had the whole watch as the arrayed themselves against ancient Babylon. Their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior; The weapons of warfare these days are far surpassing the weapons of Iraq. The coalition of the willing out gunned the little country of Iraq with their war machine. All who plunder her shall be satisfied, says the LORD The USA is now working on agreements to have their oil companies take over drilling for oil in Iraq and soon the plundering will begin in earnest as the whole world waits for the second largest producer of oil to be fully utilised. The plundering will happen and as the prophecy states the people doing the plundering will be happy. It has broken my heart to hear how many civilians have died in Iraq, upwards to 700,000 and in no way do I agree with this war but it seems that even this war was prophesied and the LORD had it written in scripture. 14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon all around, All you who bend the bow; Shoot at her, spare no arrows, For she has sinned against the LORD. 15 Shout against her all around; She has given her hand, Her foundations have fallen, Her walls are thrown down; For it is the vengeance of the LORD. Take vengeance on her. As she has done, so do to her. 16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, And him who handles the sickle at harvest time. For fear of the oppressing sword Everyone shall turn to his own people, And everyone shall flee to his own land. Put yourselves in array against Babylon all around, All you who bend the bow; Shoot at her, spare no arrows, For she has sinned against the LORD. Its obvious that I am no history student and I will be the first to admit that I have no idea what happened to Ancient Babylon and that they would have already been judged but it seems in this latest war with Iraq no arrows have been spared either. It seems a shame that innocent people have to die in Iraq because of the occupation yet it seems the LORD is still angry and wants to judge this land and this people for what they did to His people when they took them into captivity. For it is the vengeance of the LORD. Take vengeance on her. As she has done, so do to her. 16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, And him who handles the sickle at harvest time. For fear of the oppressing sword Everyone shall turn to his own people, And everyone shall flee to his own land. It seems if this prophecy is fulfilled in this modern war that the LORD has a long memory and wants this nation to learn a lesson. There is great fear in the people of Iraq and over a million have fled to neighbouring counties. 18 Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, As I have punished the king of Assyria. Saddam wasnt the king but he was the leader and he lost his life and was punished for his war crimes. It is very evident the land of Iraq is being punished as people are dying of foul water and even basic medicines are not oven available. It pains me to know what I have read about the state of Iraq, but seeing this prophecy in the Bible today has brought me some comfort.. 22 A sound of battle is in the land, And of great destruction. 23 How the hammer of the whole earth has been cut apart and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations! 24 I have laid a snare for you; You have indeed been trapped, O Babylon, And you were not aware; You have been found and also caught, Because you have contended against the LORD. 25 The LORD has opened His armory, And has brought out the weapons of His indignation; For this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts In the land of the Chaldeans. 26 Come against her from the farthest border; Open her storehouses; Cast her up as heaps of ruins, And destroy her utterly; Let nothing of her be left. 27 Slay all her bulls, Let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their punishment. 28 The voice of those who flee and escape from the land of Babylon Declares in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, The vengeance of His temple. 29 Call together the archers against Babylon. All you who bend the bow, encamp against it all around; Let none of them escape. Repay her according to her work; According to all she has done, do to her; For she has been proud against the LORD, Against the Holy One of Israel. 30 Therefore her young men shall fall in the streets, And all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, says the LORD. 31 Behold, I am against you, O most haughty one! says the Lord GOD of hosts; For your day has come, The time that I will punish you. 32 The most proud shall stumble and fall, And no one will raise him up; I will kindle a fire in his cities, And it will devour all around him. 22 A sound of battle is in the land, And of great destruction. The whole world watched as Iraq was attacked from the air and from the land and it was a great destruction as the bombs flew in to destroy much. 25 The LORD has opened His armory, And has brought out the weapons of His indignation; For this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts In the land of the Chaldeans. The armory of the LORD included all sorts of weapons of indignation. If this war is a second fulfilment of this prophecy then the LORD is very angry with the people of Babylon. 26 Come against her from the farthest border; Open her storehouses; Cast her up as heaps of ruins, And destroy her utterly; Let nothing of her be left. The occupation came from the farthest border, further then Iraq would have ever imagined. They have had their country destroyed in a massive way. Dropping from one of the healthiest countries in the world to worse the third world standards since the first war, the average Iraq citizen needs to hear about the saving grace of Jesus. This passage of scripture opens up your mind to the mind of the Lord. Perhaps the Father wanted modern Iraq judged as this prophecy says, yet I find myself to sad to continue to write on this passage. Have a good read of it, it looks like Jeremiah was looking to today.
